Some News and a Setlist Discussion

It’s February 3rd and I haven’t posted anything for the past two weeks, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on some exciting new things.  I have a big surprise for WGG that’s coming this month and trust me, it will be worth the wait.  Before that though, I’m working new content with people close to me that should be useful.

Before that though, I wanted to throw out the question:

What songs have you all been using in your setlists over the past few months?  What new songs or groups are your congregation’s connecting with in worship?  And have you made changes in the last few months with how you approach a setlist?

Bringing in the New Year

Wow, after about a month’s hiatus, I’m back.  Alot’s changed for me in the past month.  I’ve accepted a new job where I’ll be working with the homeless in my community.  I’m very excited for this chance to serve others in my community as a career.

Second, under threat of being disowned by my family, I broke down and made “The Change”.  What “Change” am I referring to?  Well, I took a bite of the forbidden fruit and bought a MacBook Pro.  Having been a PC user all my life, I’ve navigated and worked on Macs before, but never owned one myself.  And with BootCamp/Parallels now available, I thought I’d make the jump since I could have both worlds.  I’ll post more on this later, particularly how Mac stacks up for music, recording, etc, but to say that I’m pleased would be a huge understatement.

Unfortunately, my sister has disowned me for switching, but I did gain a convert.  After 25 years of owning PC’s my dad’s now bought a Mac of his own… ;)

Peace

Christmas Gift Ideas for the Worship Leader/Guitarist

Ok, we’re T-minus less than two weeks before the big day, and you’re still looking for the perfect gift for the worship guitar player in your life.  (If you’re anything like me, you’ll still be saying the same thing on the 23rd.)

Sooo, here are some of my gift suggestions for that worship guitar player in your life.  And as a disclaimer, no promotional fees have been paid to me for pushing the following, (although if you’re willing to offer, I’m willing to accept.  :P  )

Running Your Guitar Signal in Stereo

Ok, ok… I know I’ll have some people asking me “What???”  Why would you run your guitar signal stereo?  After all a guitar only has one output, so what good is splitting the signal?  Well, quite alot actually.  Now before I go any further, let me tell you that the following is probably a bit “over the top” for most guitarists.  It’s a cool way to do some unique things to your overall tone.  And it fills out your sound quite a bit if your playing in a “power trio” (i.e. drums, bass, and a single electric.)

So how do you do this?  Well, there are a few pedals, (most notably delay and modulation pedals) that let you run a mono input in and send a stereo signal out.  Or you could either buy a quarter inch Y-cable to split your signal (less desirable), or find what’s called an A/B/Y box that lets you switch between two unique outputs, or send both out at the same time.  (more desirable.)  You will put the box in your signal chain right before the pedals capable of handling split signals, (or run different mono pedals on each side of the split.)  From that point, each run goes to a different amp, so you are running two guitar amps with this setup.
